Tough Mudder: Why did RedRock participate, and for what cause?

On the 18th of August, 15 members of the RedRock team participated in the Tough Mudder in order to raise money for the Grand Appeal, here's why:

On the 18th of August,15 employees of RedRock Consulting took part in Tough Mudder, an endurance event well-regarded as the monster of all assault courses. After weeks of preparation, the team were fully charged and ready to go.

How one can ever be ready for 10-12 miles of sludge is anyone’s guess: with over 20 obstacles, endless deep bogs of mud and a trail running experience that would tire out even the likes of Mo Farah, we set ourselves up for quite the challenge.

Naturally, we’d heard our fair share of horror stories regarding the difficulty of Tough Mudder – but if there’s anything that pushed us over the finish line it’s the cause we’re supporting.

Since 1995, Wallace & Gromit's Grand Appeal has raised £50 million for Bristol Children’s Hospital. Working in partnership with Aardman Animations, The Grand Appeal has been the talk of the town since the launch of its third public arts trail Gromit Unleashed 2, which brings 67 individually designed sculptures of Wallace, Gromit and Feather McGraw hit the streets of Bristol and the surrounding areas for 9 weeks.

Even Bristolians unfamiliar with The Grand Appeal is bound to have noticed the presence of the larger-than-life-size sculptures of Wallace, Gromit and Feathers McGraw, scattered around their neighbourhoods.

The Grand Appeal supports Bristol Children’s Hospital in more ways than one: as well as funding life-saving equipment such as ventilators, a cardiac hybrid theatre and an inter-operative MRI scanner, the charity has enabled the hospital to establish arts, entertainment, education, play and music programmes designed to help distract sick children and create a welcoming, child-friendly environment. The charity also runs two free family accommodations for parents of critically ill babies and children.

Every year, Bristol Children’s Hospital cares for over 100,000 patients and serves as the paediatric intensive care centre for the South West of England. For years, families stretching across the region and beyond have relied on the dedication and hard work of the staff at Bristol Children’s hospital in their time of need.

As well as medical facilities, the hospital is renowned for the support it provides parents and siblings during difficult times. While there’s nothing that can truly alleviate the pain for families of critically ill children, The Grand Appeal does what it can to help by providing free family accommodation just moments from the hospital as well as trained professionals to talk to when it all gets too much.

As a Bristol based charity, The Grand Appeal is a cause that we felt was close to our hearts. We all know someone who’s depended on the staff and facilities at Bristol Children’s Hospital:  it’s by no means a situation anyone wants to find themselves in, but a dedicated medical team and strong support network can make all the difference.

Thanks to the money raised each year by Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal and its community of supporters, the hospital is able to provide the very best level of care for its patients and their families. We invite you to join us in our support for this important cause, and to join us in thanking all the hard working the incredible organisers that put on this year’s Tough Mudder!
